February 14, 2012 (ISN) – The Kamloops Blazers Week in Review
Wednesday, February 8th, 2011 vs. Tri-City Americans – 5-1 Win
The Blazers won a convincing 5-1 victory over the Tri-City Americans. Chase Schaber opened the scoring in a first period while Cole Cheveldave turned aside 16 shots in the opening frame. Cole Ully made it 2-0 in the second period with a nice backhand goal. The Americans cut the lead to 2-1 on a deflection that beat Cheveldave. The Blazers capitalized in the third period though as Brendan Ranford scored twice and Colin Smith got the other goal for a 5-1 victory. Ranford finished with three points, while defenseman Marek Hrbas had two assists. Full Recap and Highlights.
Friday, February 10th, 2011 vs. Kelowna Rockets – 5-4 Win
The Rockets led early, but the Blazers stormed back to get the win in overtime. Brett Bulmer scored twice for the Rockets in the first period as they held a 4-1 first period lead. Colin Smith was the only goal scorer for the Blazers. Goaltender Cole Cheveldave was out and Cam Lanigan came in. The Blazers chipped away as JC Lipon cut the lead to 4-2. In the third period goals by Colin Smith and Brendan Ranford tied the game and sent it to overtime. Overtime featured power plays and 3-on-3 play as Chase Schaber scored on a rebound to give the Blazers the win. Cam Lanigan earned the win in goal stopping all 12 shots over the last two periods. Saturday, February 11th, 2011 at Kelowna Rockets – 3-2 Win
The Blazers saw a 2-0 lead fade away, but Dylan Willick scored a big third period goal to lift the Blazers to a 3-2 win. In the first period, the Blazers got late power play goals by Bronson Maschmeyer and Dylan Willick for a 2-0 lead. Cole Cheveldave stopped 20 shots on goal in the period. The Rockets chipped away at the lead scoring once in the second and another one in the third, both on the power play, to tie the game at 2-2. Brendan Ranford fed Willick who stuffed in his second of the night to give the Blazers a 3-2 victory. Cole Cheveldave rebounded with the win in goal for the Blazers. Full Recap and Highlights.

Blazers Down to 3rd in BMO MasterCard CHL Top 10
The Kamloops Blazers continue to be ranked high in the CHL Top 10. The Blazers are 3rd in the latest rankings. The Blazers have been a fixture in the rankings during the second half of the WHL season. This is the eleventh time the Blazers have been ranked in the CHL Top 10 this season. The Blazers are the top ranked WHL team with a 40-12-1-3 record. The new CHL rankings will be out this Wednesday. To view the CHL Top 10 Rankings, follow this link.
Best of the West Poll
The Kamloops Blazers were well represented in the recent ‘Best of the West’ poll. The poll is put together by Tri-City Herald Sports Reporter, Annie Fowler. The poll is filled out by coaches, staff and players from the opposition teams in the Western Conference. A brief run down of winners includes Head Coach, Guy Charron as the Top Coach, Chase Schaber as the Top Defensive Player, and Tim Bozon as the Top Rookie. Blazers Continue to Role, Sit 1st overall in the WHL
The Kamloops Blazers continue to lead the WHL Standings with 84 points and a 40-12-1-3 record. The Blazers were the first WHL team to clinch a playoff spot and the first team to record 40 wins. The last time the Blazers won 40 games was during the 2006-07 season when the Blazers finished with a 40-26-4-2 record. The Blazers currently hold a 17-point lead in the Division over the Vancouver Giants. The Blazers are 5-1-0-0 during the busy month of February. The hockey club is on the road to clinching its first Division Title since the 2001-02 season. The magic number for the Blazers is eight. That is the combination of wins by the Blazers and losses by the Giants to clinch the B.C. Division banner.
The Blazers have already surpassed their win total from last season (29) with 40 wins,and are ranked 3rd in the CHL. The Blazers are 14-1-0-0 in their past 15 home games and have not lost at home since December 30th, 2011. One of the most glaring stats is the Blazers dominance against its Western Conference opponents with a 33-5-1-2 record including a 14-1-1-1 record against the U.S Division. The Blazers also hold the best road record in the WHL going 19-6-1-3.
Brendan Ranford WHL Player of the Week
Blazers’ forward Brendan Ranford is the current WHL Player of the Week. Ranford had 3 goals, 5 assists and 8 points in 3 games last week to help the Blazers to a 3-0-0-0 record. Ranford had a 6-game goal scoring streak end in Kelownaon Saturday night. Follow the link for more.
Blazers Host Three Games This Week
The Kamloops Blazers are at home to host three Albertateams this week. On Tuesday,February 14th, the Blazers host the Eastern Conference leading Edmonton Oil Kings. The Oil Kings come in to the game only three points behind the Blazers in the overall WHL standings. Tuesday is also ‘Rain Check’ night, as any unused tickets can be exchanged for tickets to the game on Tuesday.
The Blazers will also host the Red Deer Rebels on Friday night and the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday. The Rebels beat the Blazers 4-2 in Red Deeron October 19th and also in Kamloops 5-3 on November 11th. The Hitmen were the last team to defeat the Blazers on home ice back on December 30th, 2011.
