Victoria, BC – February 14, 2012 (ISN) –  The third race in the Frontrunners Island Race Series – Hatley Castle 8K – takes place on Sunday, February 19 at 11 am from Royal Roads Recreation Centre, 2005 Sooke Road, Colwood. The race is organized by Frontrunners Athletic Club.

Runners can register online until midnight, Wednesday February 15 at www.vira.bc.ca or on race day. Race registration until February 15 is $25 for adults and $20 for students. Race day fees are $35 and $30 for students.

The 8K course is primarily cross-country with challenging terrain through the grounds of Royal Roads University. “There is one course change at the end of the race, which avoids the steep hill – locally called ‘little bugger,” said Cathy Noel, President of the Vancouver Island Runners’ Association (VIRA). “The final two kilometers is now fast with a -62m descent and a flat final 800m. This change was made to allow for the final 100 metre dash for the yellow jersey.”

The Prairie Inn Harriers, Victoria lead the club standings with 1444 points, followed by Comox Valley Road Runners with 703 and Frontrunners Athletic Club with 628.

Eight races make up the Frontrunners Island Race Series. Hatley Castle 8K will be followed by Cobble Hill 10K on February 26 (re-scheduled from January 22), Synergy Health Management Ltd Bazan Bay 5K on March 4, Comox Valley RV Half Marathon on March 18, Merville 15K on April 1, and Sooke River 10K on April 15.
