charger1For his outstanding performance, Chargers newcomer Alex Sadowski (Belmont) earned the PACWEST’s prominent Men’s Volleyball Rookie of the Year award. Alex led the league in blocks almost the entire season and was ranked nationally as the CCAA’s No. 4 top blocker, something that is very rare for a rookie player. Although big at 6’7″ and 226 pounds, he has great agility and intelligence which serve him well both on blocking and in transition. An impact player, Alex has rapidly adjusted to the speed of college volleyball. Alex was also named to the Men’s Volleyball All-Rookie Team.

Chargers men’s volleyball team captain Garrett Marcellus (Oak Bay) earned a Second-Team PACWEST All-Star for his all-around talent and versatility. Effective both in the middle and on the wing, the fourth-year leftside anchors the Chargers’ serve receive and has consistently led the team in attack percentage and blocking. He is one of the few players in the league who has remained in the top 15 in every statistical category all season.

On the women’s side, second-year leftside Elizabeth Davis (Glenlyon Norfolk) followed up her conference Rookie of the Year campaign with another very productive season for the Chargers, this year picking up her second PACWEST Second Team All-Star award. Amongst the top of the Kills/set and Total Offense/set leaders for the duration of the season Elizabeth has produced 3.31 kills per set and a combined 3.96 total points per set for the Chargers; numbers that are first and second in the league respectively.

First-year middle/leftside Carly Hilliard (Seaquam, Delta) was named to the PACWEST Women’s Volleyball All-Rookie Team. Carly has provided the Chargers with 2.23 points per set and is amongst the league leaders in blocks per set and amidst the top point producers in her position in the PACWEST.

The Chargers men’s and women’s volleyball teams head to New Westminster today and will begin first round action at the PACWEST Provincial Volleyball Championships at Douglas College tomorrow. The Chargers women face off against Columbia Bible College at 6pm; the men lock horns with the Capilano Blues at 8pm.
