KENT, WA (ISN) – The Everett Silvertips missed out on an opportunity to move into a Western Conference playoff spot Saturday night, suffering a 3-0 defeat against the Seattle Thunderbirds at ShoWare Center.

The loss leaves Everett three points behind the Thunderbirds for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West with 11 games remaining in the regular season.

Kent Simpson helped keep Everett in the game throughout, making 42 saves as the T-Birds scored once in each period. The Silvertips generated 14 shots in the third period and totaled 29 for the game, but couldn’t beat Calvin Pickard as they were held off the scoreboard for just the second time this season.

The Thunderbirds outshot the ‘Tips 14-9 and led 1-0 after evenly-played first period. The only scoring came when Brad Deagle’s long point shot was headed wide before Dillon Wagner redirected it into the top corner at 14:14, giving Seattle a 1-0 edge after one.

Simpson made a few key stops in the second frame to keep the score unchanged until Seattle increased its lead on the powerplay late in the period. Connor Honey banged in a rebound opportunity after two Simpson saves with 3:02 remaining to make it 2-0 going into the third.

The T-Birds made it 3-0 less than six minutes into the final stanza on similar goal to their first one, as Jacob Doty deflected Deagle’s shot from the left point into the net. The Silvertips generated a few good chances as the period wore on, highlighted by Kohl Bauml’s shot off the left post after a feed from Ryan Harrison, but Pickard wouldn’t be beaten as Seattle finished off the 3-0 win.

Kent Simpson (14-28-1-5) made 17 third-period saves among his 42 total as the Thunderbirds finished with a 45-29 shot edge. Calvin Pickard (21-31-1-1) picked up his 12th career shutout with the 29 stops. Everett went scoreless on three powerplay chances, while Seattle converted 1 of 4.
