(ISN) – Today, the PACWEST officially announced its Basketball All-Star and Rookie award recipients and Camosun is proud to congratulate Chargers student-athletes James Blandford, Trevor Scheurmann, Jordan Elvedahl and Caitlin Marshall for their outstanding performances over the 2011-12 season.

The news comes as the Chargers basketball teams make their way to the Provincial Championships set to begin tomorrow in North Vancouver.

image015First-year Charger James Blandford (Stelly’s) was selected the PACWEST Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year for his exceptional athletic abilities. At 6’6″, James is described as an extraordinary athlete who plays above the rim. For a player of his size and strength, he is an excellent ball defender and a very good defensive rebounder. James was listed as the PACWEST’s top rebounder in January prior to an ankle injury which moved him down to fourth spot at the end of the season. James also received a 2nd Team All-Star award and a spot on the 2012 PACWEST All-Rookie Team.

image017Teammate Trevor Scheurmann was also recognized for his accomplishments as a first-year post-secondary player. Returning to the court following a three-year absence from competition due to injury, the 6’6″ forward from Winnipeg (Oak Park) was a scoring force for the Chargers averaging over 16 points per game. Equipped with a very high basketball IQ and a tremendous athletic ability, Trevor completed his first PACWEST season ranked 8th in the league in scoring among some of the top hoop hitters in the nation. Trevor earned a conference 2nd Team All-Star and was named to the All-Rookie Team.

image019An exceptional point guard and leader, second-year Jordan Elvedahl (Stelly’s) earned a PACWEST 2nd Team All-Star for his year-long achievements. Jordan was Top 3 in assists in the league and as a rookie shot over 50% from the field, 48% from the 3pt line and over 90% from the FT line. Continuing that kind of production this season, Jordan has won several games with this free throw shooting as has averaged over 12 points per game.

image021Chargers women’s basketball wing player Caitlin Marshall from St. Albert (AB) was awarded a PACWEST 2nd Team All-Star for her stellar performance on the hardwood this year. Playing out her fourth year of eligibility, Caitlin arrived at Camosun this Fall after spending two years away from the game. During her time at Camosun, she has developed into one of the top perimeter shooters in the conference while being among the Top 10 scoring leaders over the entire season. In addition to putting up points, Caitlin is also responsible for guarding the opponent team’s best perimeter shooter and providing leadership to a young team dominated with first and second players.
