(ISN) – The BC Hockey Major Midget League’s regular season concluded this past weekend with the final five doubleheaders being played across the Province. For the fifth consecutive year the Vancouver North West Giants have finished atop the Major Midget League Standings with a record of 29-5-6.

Quarterfinal Matchup #1: Vancouver North East Chiefs vs. Valley West Hawks

The Vancouver North East Chiefs will host the Valley West Hawks in a rematch of the 2010-2011 quarterfinals. The Valley West Hawks squeaked into the playoffs winning by winning four (4) straight games. The Chiefs enjoyed one of their best seasons on the ice with a record of 23-13-4 which was good for the 3rd seed.

The Chiefs won the regular season series 3-0-1.

Quarterfinal Matchup #2: Okanagan Rockets vs. Greater Vancouver Canadians

The Okanagan Rockets concluded the second half of the season with a series split against the North Island Silvertips. The Rockets have been one (1) of the hottest teams in the MML since the Christmas Break, compiling a 10-3-2 record. The Canadians ended the season on a low note losing two (2) straight to the Cariboo Cougars. The Canadians have had a rollercoaster second half of the season and will look to regain their winning form when they travel to Kelowna to play the Rockets.

The season series was tied 2-2.

The Vancouver North West Giants and Cariboo Cougars will await the winners of the quarter-final matchups this weekend. The Giants and Cougars finished first and second respectively in the MML standings which gives them a bye to the semi-finals.

The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
