Tomie improves to tie Woodland for second in Escondido

(ISN) – The UVic Vikes women’s golf team closed out the final day of the Escondido Women’s Intercollegiate in great form, with a team score of 641 and a second place finish behind Cal State-San Marcos.

After the two days and two rounds of golf on Mar. 5-6, UVic’s Megan Woodland (Victoria, BC) and Brynn Tomie (Bedford, NS) tied for second with a score of 13-over-par (153).

In yesterday’s first round, Woodland finished shooting one-over-par on the par-70 course to put her in first place. The third-year shot 12-over-par (82) on day two to put her in second place behind Point Loma Nazarene’s Andrea Mersino, who finished six-over-par (146).

Tied with Woodland, was teammate Tomie, who had a fantastic finish in the final round at four-over-par (74). Tomie improved from her nine-over-par score in round one to tie Woodland for second place with 153.

Cal State-San Marcos paved the course with a team high score of 635 (318-317) and were led by fifth-place finisher Tess Russell who shot 79-76 in two rounds to finish 14-over-par (155). California Baptist University finished six strokes behind the Vikes in third place with a team score of 647.

Second-year Victoria Kondrak (Victoria, BC) finished 11th overall after an improved score of 10-over-par in her final round, which totalled to 164 and 24-over-par overall. Also competing for the Vikes wasCari Chow (Victoria, B.C.), who finished 31-over-par and tied for 15th, as well as Michaela Misener (Stanhope, PEI), who finished 34-over-par for a 20th place tie.
