(ISN) – Curl BC is pleased to announce that the Nanaimo Curling Centre will host the 2013 BC Wheelchair Curling Championship, January 25-27, 2013.
The BC Wheelchair Curling Championship will host the top wheelchair curlers in the province. BC has dominated the wheelchair curling scene in past years, being home to the 2010 Paralympic gold medal team, 2010 Canadian gold and silver medalists, and the 2011 World Champions.
Nanaimo’s Corinne Jensen (2010 national champ) & Ellis Tull (former motor cross competitor) recently won the 2012 BC Wheelchair Curling Championship held at the McArthur Island Curling Centre in Kamloops, playing with skip, Darryl Neighbour. They will compete for the national title later this month in Thunder Bay, ON, March 18-25. Jensen & Tull are the third Nanaimo rink this season to compete on the national stage. Kesa Van Osch represented BC in the Junior Women’s national, while Penny Shantz will compete in the Senior Canadian Championship in the coming weeks.
The Nanaimo Curling Centre has hosted previous events such as the 2004 BC Men’s Curling Championship, 2008 Canadian Master Curling Championships and the 2010 BC Senior Curling Championships. It will next feature BC’s top mixed curling teams during the 2012 Williams Moving & Storage BC Mixed Curling Championship, March 15, 2012.
