Victoria (ISN) – The Greater Victoria Baseball Association (GVBA) is pleased to announce that it will host a Midget AAA caliber baseball team this season.  Called the Victoria Selects, they will play under the Guidance of the GVBA High Performance Division that also includes the midget-aged Junior and Premier Eagle teams and the Junior and Senior Bantam Eagle squads.

The Victoria Selects are a cooperative effort between LVI and GVBA to provide players the opportunity to play baseball in Victoria and compete in the BC Minor Midget AAA Baseball League.

Last year, the team played under the LVI / Victoria Mariner umbrella, but a decision was made this season to have it move to GVBA so that the team could qualify for play and for Provincials at the BC Minor Baseball level.  LVI governs the Junior and Premier Victoria Mariner teams that play in the PBL, but does not maintain affiliation with BC Minor Baseball.

The Selects will play in BC Minor’s competitive Midget AAA League. The 44-game regular season starts in early April and ends in late July. The home and away games will be against eleven other BC Minor AAA teams concentrated on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. In addition, if players and parents wish, the team can enter Tournaments and increase the number of games played. Eight teams qualify for the Midget AAA Provincial Tournament at the end of July. A Provincial Select Team advances to the National Championship while the winner of the Provincial Tournament qualifies for the Western Canadian Championship Tournament.

In 2012 the Victoria Selects will play their games out of Henderson and Layritz Parks.
