Langley, BC (ISN) – The Mount Doug Rams have advanced to the “Sweet 16” of the BC Senior Boys “AAA” Basketball Provincials, after winning their “play-in” game Tuesday over Caledonia by a score of 82-71.

The win now moves the Rams into a final 16 match-up with Walnut Grove on Thursday, when the bulk of the action gets underway at the Langley Events Centre.

Needing a win to ensure their trip to the 2012 Provincials was not a short one, the Rams started slowly, getting behind Caledonia 15-11 after the first quarter.

Things did not get any better in the second half as Caledonia took advantage of some solid three-point shooting, notching seven in the first half to up their lead to 40-33 at the break.

The Rams finally turned on the jets in the third quarter and with some solid defense that generated a number of turnovers, went on a 25-8 tear to take a 58-48 lead after three quarters.

Caledonia would regroup in the fourth to match the Rams bucket for bucket, but could never mount a charge and the Rams prevailed 82-71.

Leading the way for Mount Doug were Curtis Wilson and Connor Morgan with 23 and 21 points respectively.  Elliot Rowe added 21.  Morgan, with a number of his points coming on dunks, and with some solid defence, was named player of the game.

The Rams will play Walnut Grove at 8:30 am Wednesday, while the other Island Representative, Oak Bay and Belmont, get to sleep in a bit longer.  The Bays will ope at 10:00 am against Terry fox, while the Bulldogs meet Vancouver College at 11:00 am.
