Victoria (ISN) – The Camosun College Chargers golf team will be hitting the links against some of the best teams from BC and Alberta at the second annual Bear Mountain Collegiate Golf Tournament this weekend, March 17-18.

Developed by John Randle (Camosun College Chargers Head Coach and Academy Director at the Bear Mountain Resort) the tournament was very successful last year and organizers are looking forward to another great event.

“Bear Mountain Resort is really pleased to be hosting this event once again,” said Coach Randle. “The course is in great shape and promises to be a great test.”

The 2011 PACWEST Men’s Champion Chargers will tee-off against the Grant MacEwan Griffins (2011 ACAC Gold Medalists), the Vancouver Island University Mariners (2010 PACWEST Gold Medalists), the UBC-Okanagan Heat (5th in PACWEST) and Kwantlen College (7th in PACWEST).

Also competing in the tournament is the UBC-O women’s team who won this year’s PACWEST conference title and an individual golfer from Grant MacEwan’s women’s squad which captured Gold at the 2011 ACAC Championship.

In all, 32 golfers are scheduled to tee-off this weekend starting on Saturday.

Making up the Chargers roster are 5th year veteran Kevin Walz (Qualicum), 2nd year PACWEST Athlete of the Week Jared Hundza (Pacific Christian), 5th year Jordan Krulicki (Red Deer, AB), 3rd year Justin Deol (Cowichan) and rookie Brady Stead (Vernon).

“We are happy to be playing this time of year and we’re looking forward to a great event,” said Coach Randle. “It’s our last event of the year so our seniors want to go out with a win.”
