Tickets Now on Sale for Gala Brunch

Victoria, BC (ISN) –  The nominees for the 4th Celebration of Women in Sport awards have been announced. The gala brunch – which takes place on Sunday, April 1 at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE) – honour’s women’s achievement in sport, and highlights the importance of sport for girls and women in all stages of athletic development.

The nominations are in four categories: athlete, coach, sport builder and volunteer. Six have been shortlisted in the athlete category: Mical Dyck, Mountain Biking/Cyclocross/Road Cycling; Annie Ewart, Cycling; Jeane Lasson, Weightlifting; Alexandra Lee, Field Hockey; Karen March, Paracyling, and Barbara Mervin, Rugby. One coach was nominated: Allison Dobb, Rowing. For sport builder there are three: Linda Gilmour, Kettlebell; Irene Schell, BC Summer Games, and Wilhelmina Helena Toews, Duncan Community Fitness/Sports. For volunteer of the year there is Chantal Brodeur, Special Olympics, and Jennifer Erlendson, Road Cycling. The winner of each category will be announced at the brunch.

“All of the nominees are role models for women of all ages in sport today,” says Andrea Carey, Director of Operations & Community Engagement, PISE. “They are all instrumental in moving the sport system forward in Greater Victoria and beyond. PISE is thrilled to host this event, and encourage individuals and businesses to buy tickets and support Women in Sport.”

The gala event features two guest speakers. Three-time Paralympic Gold Medalist, Michelle Stilwell and 2011 World Cup Champion in Double Lightweight Women’s Rowing, Lindsay Jennerich. Stilwell recently won Sport BC’s Athlete with a Disability of the Year award.

Tickets are still available for the event: individual tickets are $80 + HST or a table is $775 + HST (table of 6 with 4 athletes/coaches). Tickets can be bought at PISE’s fitness front desk or by downloading the order form on www.piseworld.com. The deadline for ordering tickets is March 29.
