CIS women’s basketball Tournament All-Star and silver medalist Kris Young of the UBC Thunderbirds was a standout performer at the 2012 national championship, hosted by the University of Calgary Dinos.

Coming off of a Canada West championship where the T-Birds beat the previously undefeated Regina Cougars two weeks earlier, the sophomore guard out of North Vancouver recorded 40 points, 26 rebounds and 16 assists over three games at Nationals.

In the quarter-finals against the McGill Marlets on Saturday, the Handsworth Secondary graduate had a game-high in rebounds (12) and assists (8) to go with seven points during a 65-43 UBC win. The following night she put back a game-high in points (17) and assists (5), adding six boards in a 59-51 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees, earning Player of the Game honours in the process.

On Monday it was a different story as the Thunderbirds fell 69-53 to the defending CISD champion Windsor Lancers, but Young again had solid statistics with a team-best in points (16) and rebounds (8), also picking up three assists. It was after the final game on Monday evening that Young was selected to the All-Tournament team.
