Woodland, Desmarais, Nicol finish top ten after round one

(ISN) – The UVic Vikes women’s golf team battled snow and storm to finish their first round on day one of the 2012 Cavalier Classic golf tournament in Camas, Washington. Megan Woodland (Victoria, BC) lead the Vikes women with a 4-over-par finish on the par-72 and 5784-yard course.


The Vikes women finished in second place (44-over-par-332), 14 strokes behind No. 1 Concordia (30-over-par-318). Behind Woodland was Pamela Desmarais (Victoria, BC), who shot 82 to tie Concordia’s Sonny Powers for eighth place at 10-over-par. Rounding out the top ten was Vikes golfer Emily Nicol (Kelowna, B.C.) who shot an 84 to finish 12-over-par.

Concordia’s Sara Molyneux shot a 3-over-par-75 to sit on top of the leader board with second-place finisher Sarah Crofchek of Northwest Christian, who shot 4-over-par.

Also competing for the Vikes was Brynn Tomie (Bedford, NS) (T-15, +16) and Victoria Kondrak (Victoria, BC) (T-17, +17).

The Vikes women will complete their second and final round tomorrow, Mar. 20, on the Camas Meadows golf course.
