(ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes finished atop the individual leader boards for both the men and women at the 2012 Cavalier Classic golf tournament in Camas, Wash.
After three rounds for the men, Vike Carson Kallis (Red Deer, Alta.) was victorious with an 8-under-par score, two strokes ahead of teammate Darren Hupfer (Edmonton, Alta.), who shot 6-under par for second place. For the women, Megan Woodland(Victoria, BC) finished first overall with a 13-over-par score after two rounds on the par-72 course.
Kallis, a second-half season addition, maintained the top of the leader board standings from day one after shooting a 71 and 68 for round two and three scores. Kallis helped the Vikes to a first place overall finish with a team score of 857 or 7-under-par, an impressive 47 strokes ahead of second place finishers, Concordia.
Chipping in for the big team win was Hupfer, who shot 71 and 67 for the final two rounds to give him a six stroke gain on third place finisher, also a Vike, Dylan Cann (Calgary, Alta.). Cann impressed with a final round score of 69 to finish the tournament with an even-par score. Not far behind was Vike Samuel Holland (New Minas, NS) who finished in sixth place (+7).
On the women’s side, Woodland climbed to the top of the standings after shooting 2-under-par in the second and final round to bump her ahead of Northwestern Christian’s Sarah Crofchek and Concordia’s Sara Molyneux, who both tied for second with 16-over-par. Woodland finished with a final score of 13-over-par to take the leader board but the Vikes team finished second overall with a score of +111.
A Vikes duo of Pamela Desmarais (Victoria, BC) and Emily Nicol (Kelowna, B.C.) tied for eighth place at 33-over-par. Desmarais shot an 81 on day two, her best score out of the three rounds, while Nicol wrapped up the tournament shooting an 83. Also posting top 20 finishes were Brynn Tomie (Bedford, NS) (12th, +39) and Victoria Kondrak (Victoria, BC) (T-14, +41).
