(ISN) – The Vancouver Giants have taken a 2-0 lead in their best of seven Western Conference Quarterfinal series with the Spokane Chiefs, winning 7-3 Saturday night at the Pacific Coliseum. Jordan Martinook, Marek Tvrdon, and Brendan Gallagher each finished with 4 points on the night.

The Chiefs were without their leading point getter and the Western Conference nominee for Defenceman of the Year Brenden Kichton, who was hit in the face with a puck in Game 1 Friday night. The Giants opened up the scoring on the power play, as Neil Manning slid into the slot for his 1st goal of the post season. 2:10 later Jordan Martinook scored his 3rd goal of the playoffs to put the Giants up 2-0. That lead would stand up through 20 minutes of play.

Spokane put on the pressure for the first ten minutes of the second period, but could not beat Adam Morrison. Marek Tvrdon scored his 2nd of the playoffs to put the Giants up 3-0 just before the midway point of the period. Brendan Gallagher made it 4-0 with his 1st marker of the post season on the power play and Tvrdon added one more before the period was out to put the Giants up 5-0 through 40 minutes. Morrison stopped all 19 shots he faced in the frame and 28 shots through two periods.

Penalty trouble for the Giants in the third period allowed the Chiefs to find some life. Spokane scored back to back goals on the power play to cut the lead to 5-2. However, Neil Manning countered with his 2nd goal of the night and 3rd for the team on the man advantage to put the Giants back in front by 4. Spokane cut the lead to 6-3 before Gallagher rounded out the scoring with his 2nd of the night, making it a 7-3 final. The Chiefs outshot the Giants 41-29. Morrison made 38 saves in the victory.

The Giants finished 3-for-7 on the power play, while the Chiefs went 2-for-6. With the win, the Giants take a 2-0 series lead.

The series now shifts to Spokane for games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Game 3 puck drop is at 7:05 pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 on AM 650.
