(ISN) – Youth Sticking Together is excited to announce that Bill Bestwick has come on board as the Hockey Commissioner as the group builds towards the June 28 start of their attempt to break the record for the “World’s Longest Street Hockey Game.”
Bestwick has devoted his life to serving the City of Nanaimo. Best known for his work with the Nanaimo Clippers (Celebrated winningest coach in Nanaimo Clippers History),he is currently the Director of Operations for the Atlas Sports Group and he’s also currently serving his third term on City Council. Bestwick’s knowledge of hockey, combined with his awareness of our community, makes him a perfect fit for the role of Hockey Commissioner, and we are thrilled to be working with him!
The current world record for the longest street hockey game stands at 105 hours and 17 minutes. A group of local teenagers mentored by adult community leaders has set their sites on breaking that record. They are concerned with more than seeing their names in the Guinness Book, however. They see this event as a fundraiser to help some local groups that serve youth in Nanaimo. Funds raised will be shared between three organizations: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island, Crimson Coast Dance Society and the Nanaimo Youth Ball Hockey Association.
The event will take place from June 28th till July 3rd at the Lacrosse Box next to the Curling Centre.
