The Victoria Mariners built a 6-0 lead and survived a ninth inning rally by the Victoria Eagles to hold on to a 6-4 win Good Friday afternoon in BC Junior Premier Baseball League pre-season action at Lambrick Park in Victoria.

Pitching was the dominating factor early in this game as the Eagles Jason Heckl (2 innings) and Tony Ebbs-Canavan (2 innings), and the Mariners Dan Phillips (3 innings) and Dallas Patterson (1 inning pitched), held their opponents scoreless through the first four innings.

In the top of the fourth, the Mariners would get to Eagles pitcher Sam Caouette and jump into a 3-0 lead thanks in part to a Tanner Hess’s RBI single and a Dakota St.Laurent sacrifice fly.

The Mariners would add three more runs over the course of the next few innings and would take a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth before the Eagles would rally, with Graeme Chong singling to knock in the first Eagle run. The Eagle rally would fall short though and the Mariners would finish with the 6-4 win.
