Victoria (ISN) – After what could modestly be considered a challenging season last year, the Victoria Grizzlies Junior A hockey team is beginning the rebuilding process and are holding their first of two spring Prospect Camps this weekend at Bear Mountain Arena.

Just under 95 players and 18 goalies have been split into 6 teams for the weekend, with scrimmage games beginning Friday and continuing through the day Saturday. The Camp will culminate in an all-star game at 1:00 Sunday.
Grizzlies Head Coach Rob Doyle was honest in what he and his coaching staff will be looking for at the camp, “Clearly we did not meet a number of our goals last season, we did not make the playoffs and with that comes change. There are definitely some jobs here open on our team and with that, it will be up to the players to show if they can take the next step and play Jr A hockey. Hopefully we can find the next Wade Murphy or Tyler Bozak here.”

“Goaltender is another position we need to strengthen this season. Garrett Rockafellow will be coming back to us, but there is definitely a spot open. There are no guarantees for him either, so we are looking for a goalie to step up and stand out this weekend. We are also looking to add some size and grit to our team and there are a few kids here who can provide that, so it will be interesting to see how they do against their peers here.”

The Prospect Camp continues Sunday at Bear Mountain Arena with a goalie evaluation session at 8:00 am and three final scrimmage games beginning at 9:15 am. The final All-Star game begins at 1:30 pm.
The Grizzlies will also be holding a second Prospect Camp in Kamloops in early May.
