Victoria, BC (ISN) – The TC10K social media tracking service was launched today. The free service will enable runners and walkers to have their time and placing transmitted to their Facebook or Twitter page during the race. The TC10K takes place on Sunday April 29.
Race Day Timing, the Victoria-based company providing the service, will have timing mats at 5km, 8km and the finish. “In addition to having your 5km, 8km, and finish time shared live on your Facebook or Twitter account during the race, friends and family will be able to track a participants progress on our live leader board and athlete tracker,” says Mark Nelson, Owner, Race Day Timing.
Followers will be able to track up to five separate runners/walkers at the same time on either their computer or mobile device. The live social media sharing requires runners/walkers to register for this free service, but the runner/walker must already be registered for the TC10K event. If you are registering for the race after April 16th you will need to wait 48 hrs before registering for the live social media updates. To register for this service go to http://www.tc10k.ca/results/2012-results .
This is the first time such an application has been used in British Columbia – it has previously been used in the New York, Chicago and Singapore Marathons.
The TC10K is Canada’s second largest 10-kilometre race. Online registration ends midnight on April 25. As of today 11,000 have registered for the race, 371 teams have signed up, with 43 of those being school teams. To register go to www.tc10k.ca . For more information call: 250-744-5538.
