The Velox Valkyries wrapped up the 2012 Spring Rugby season with a decisive 64-22 victory over the 2nd place United RFC to finish the regular season a perfect 9-0.
If head coach Aaron Frisby’s game plan for the Valkyries was to come out fast and hard score early and often to build an insurmountable lead and continue to build on that lead then the Valkyries executed that plan to near perfection on Saturday.

The Valkyries wasted little time opening the scoring when they recovered their opening kickoff and Natalie Tam slashed her way through the United defence and tallied in the 1st minute of play to put Velox up 5-0.

They built on that lead quickly with a try from Chelsea Minter another from Tam and one from Selina McGinnis that where all converted by Amanda Campbell to open a 26-0 lead before the United team knew what hit them.

United did settle down and put up a pair of tries to make things interesting but Velox would close out the 1st half with tries from McGinnis and league leading try scorer Jesse Olynyk to go into the break up 38-12.

United opened the 2nd half with a try but were answered back quickly by Olynyk with her second of the game. It was then Courtney Blum and Shannon Kane’s turns to cross the line, opening up a 57-17 lead.
Olynyk would add another try late to close out the scoring and give the Valkyries a decisive 64-22 win and home field advantage for the playoffs. Campbell held the hot boot on the day finishing with 7 converts.

The United forward pack did give the Valkyries their toughest test on the season splitting the scrums and winning their fare share of rucks but in the end Velox showed their depth and commitment to the team game in another dominating performance.
The Valkyries will now take on Bayside RFC May 5 at Velox Field in the semi finals of the Harris Memorial Cup Championship.
