Victoria (ISN) – Victoria United FC kicks off its season in the highly competitive Pacific Coast Soccer League this Saturday May 5th, hosting Khalsa Sporting Club 4:30 p.m. at RAP.
Playing in their first match of the Premier Division, Victoria United will be looking to avenge last seasons’ result and place at the top of the PCSL table. On Sunday May 6, at 4:30 p.m., United travels to Hampton Park for a match against their island rivals, Victoria Highlanders FC.
New Premier Team Head Coach Steve Scott played for Victoria United from 2005 to 2008. Steve returns to Victoria United after spending the last three summers with the Victoria Highlanders of the Premier Development Team (PDL) in the United Soccer League (USL). Playing for Division 1 Sooke Celtic during the winter in the Vancouver Island Soccer League from 2005 to present, Steve also took over as Head Coach of the Division 1 Sooke Celtic team the last two seasons.
Steve is a well-respected island player, and may come off the bench from time to time to add some forword flair to the Victoria strike force. United has survived some rebuilding years and are looking forword to some returning veteran players, with some new additions, bringing some hardware back to the Island. “My expectations this year is to compete in every game. I want to have a very stingy defense and allow very few goals. We have some veteran defenders and it should be our strong point. Above all I just want the players to enjoy themselves, and WIN!” said Coach Steve Scott.
The PCSL Premier Men’s Division welcomes three new teams for the 2012 season: Bellingham United, PoCo FC and Langley Athletic. Returning teams include the Vancouver Thunderbirds, Khalsa Sporting Club, Okanagan Challenge, Coquitlam Metro-Ford and Victoria Highlanders.
The Victoria United Reserve team will be under the direction of new Head Coach Drew Brittain, another Victoria United veteran. The Reserves opened there 2012 season away to Mid Isle Highlanders on April 28th and came away with a 2-0 win. On Saturday May 5th, the Reserves will host Chilliwack FC with a kick off time of 5 p.m. at Hampton Park.
