Victoria (ISN) – Victoria United FC started off the 2012 PCSL season Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Khalsa Sporting Club at Royal Athletic Park.
Both teams started off with a possession style game plan, which kept a lot of the action in the middle of the park and not too many scoring chances at the beginning of the game. In the 36th minute Victoria United’s Cooper Barry scored the first goal of the game.

Khalsa’s keeper Lucas Menz made a breakaway save in the 44th minute to keep the halftime score at 1-0. United’s striker Mike Moon got the second goal of the game at 53 minutes from a great cross from Doug Armstrong that fell to the feet of Manny Straith who laid the ball to Mike Moon.
Up 2-0 in the second half of the game Victoria controlled most of the play. United’s Doug Joyce finished the scoring with a goal at the 67th minute from a pass from Cooper Barry and Victoria was leading 3-0. United’s goalkeeper Hide Ozawa made some outstanding saves throughout the game to hold on to the shutout.

Head Coach Steve Scott commented: “Today’s game was a great start to the season. I thought we controlled the possession well in the first half and had a couple of good chances and scored a great goal after some nice passing, a very unselfish pass from Doug Joyce to Cooper Barry six yards out and we were up 1-0.”
“Second half we came out and attacked more, there was lots of room and Mike Moon and Doug Joyce both found the net in the second half. Hide Ozawa made two or three good saves to keep a clean sheet and a good start in my mind by everyone. Looking forward to tomorrows game where Paul Vandenboomen, Craig Robertson and Paul Viveriois will be returning with some fresh legs.”
