(ISN) – The Peninsula Co-Op reserves Women’s Soccer team started their 2012 campaign with a 1-0 win over Coquitlam last Sunday.
It was a tale of two halves last Sunday at Coquitlam Town Centre Stadium.
The first half found the Co-op reserves with plenty of the play showing their strong possession game through some very good combination passing. Thier passing game gave them a few great chances only to be stopped by a very capable Coquitlam goalie.
Keeping the pressure on, the Co-op ladies were able to spring Sarah Lefebvre with an accurate long pass out of the back from goaltender Shelby Walker. Lefebvre’s touch did not let her down and she was able to place a well struck ball into the far corner past the outstretched Coquitlam tender.
The second half was a bit of a “learning curve” as the reserves found themselves back on their heels as Coquitlam pressed for the equilizer. Coquitlam was awarded a penaly kick in the second half which was shot wide of a well positioned Sam Behm, Co-op’s goalie. Sam was then put to the test again making two great back to back saves, one point blank shot and another off a short rebound.
With the mounting pressure Coach Rick was quick to change his tactics and the reserves were able to hold off the mounting pressure for the duration of the game. It was nice to see all players do their part to ensure the team was susccessful.
The next two league games are away vs. Okanagan FC May 12th 3pm Kickoff at UBCO and May 13th 12pm at Hillside Stadium vs the Kamloops Heat.
