Record Attendance Expected; Registration Fee Increases this Sunday
(ISN) – The first event of the 2012 Subaru Western Triathlon Series is less than two weeks away on May 27th. Athletes are invited to register in the Sprint, Olympic, Half, or form a 2 or 3 person Relay Team in any of the 3 distances (and we have individuals looking for relay team partners).
The race is becoming famous for a great early season tune-up on a beautiful course highlighted by a stunning west coast run on the soft Trans Canada Trail – and now a trip across the amazing Kinsol Trestle! Recent beautiful weather has been nicely warming up Vancouver Island’s lakes. Join us for a great grassroots event and register now!
This year, The Shawnigan Lake Business Association will be hosting the first annual Shawnigan Village Triathlon Festival the day before the race from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, in the same general location as Race Package Pick-up. There will be lots of fun family activities, a marketplace with local artisans, entertainment, food, drink and local restaurant specials so be sure to come early for lunch and bring the whole family when you come to pick up your race package.
The Danone Kids Fun Run will conclude the Shawnigan Village Triathlon Festival and will take place at 2:30pm at Elsie Miles Field, one block from the Village.
The Danone Kids Fun Run will have three course distances available: 300m, 800m and 1.7km. This event is FREE for kids 3-12 years old, and all participants get a race bib, finisher’s ribbon and a chance to stand on the Winners Podium. All kids will also get Danone Yogurt and other goodies. Pre-registration is recommended. To register email Darcy Kulai, Kids Run Captain, at email@example.com or call Shawnigan Lake Community Centre registration at (250) 743-1433. Late registration on-site will also be available until 2 pm.
Parking for the Festival and Kids run will be on the street or is also available at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre, which is a one block walk across the field to the Village.
The Subaru Shawnigan Lake Triathlon Sport & Lifestyle Expo will also be happening on race weekend, and will take place at West Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park on Saturday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm and on Sunday, Race Day, from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The Rotary Club of South Cowichan will be at the Expo serving a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, from 6:00 am to 10:30 am for those athletes needing a few extra carbs before their race and for all the volunteers, spectators, and families and friends of participants that come out early to support their loved ones! Get 2 pancakes, 2 sausages, juice and coffee for only $5.00. All proceeds of the Pancake Breakfast go to Rotary Club.
The Expo will feature food vendors, entertainment and retail vendors and booths including:
K-Swiss (featuring Subaru Tri Series Commemorative Race Gear!)
Blue Competition Cycles
Merridale Cider & Bakery
And more to be announced…
