(ISN) – Due to an injury sustained by Connor Braid while playing for his club JBAA in the Rounsfell Cup final, Braid will be unavailable for selection in Canada’s upcoming June test matches.

“This is a cruel blow for Connor,” stated Gareth Rees National Program Manager, “particularly as he has worked so hard on his game and specifically the understanding of the fly-half role.”

Coach Kieran Crowley also stated his disappointment for Connor and confirmed,”this is only a temporary setback and Connor will be involved in Canada’s future plans.”

A trio of up and coming players have been identified to join the squad to help cover the vacancy created by Braid’s injury.

Atlantic Rock standout Patrick Parfrey will join the squad from May 30th to June 10th as part of the USA preparations.

Liam Underwood, who has just returned from a very successful tour of South America with the Ontario Blues, will also join the squad for the first game as well as the Italy test match at BMO field in Toronto on June 15th.

Canadian Sevens squad member and star of the recent victory by Capilano’s RFC in the Canadian Direct Insurance, Rounsfell Cup Final, Harry Jones will also work with the team in the build-up to the final game for Canada against Georgia’s National team. The Georgia match will be played at Burnaby’s Swangard Stadium on June 23rd. Coach Crowley declared, “I am pleased at being able to observe all these young players in the full test match environment.”
