(ISN) – Victoria’s Peninsula Co-op Women’s team are looking to build on their opening weekend win, playing 2 pm Sunday at Royal Athletic Park against the visiting Colorado Rush side in what promises to be an exciting match up.
After opening their season with a 3-2 win against rival Vancouver Whitecaps, the Highlander’s squad are looking to give Victoria soccer fans a great show, building on strong performances by Liz Hansen who scored the team’s first goal of the season, and Lindsey Hoetzel, who was named USL’s Player of the Week.
“We were feeling very strong throughout our first game, and were able to keep good pressure on the Whitecap’s defense,” said Victoria Highlanders FC forward Hoetzel. “It was great to get into the game in the second half, and Janelle Smith did a great job in setting me up for a pair of goals.”
“Our first match of the season was a great opportunity to see how well our players work in game situations,” said Head Coach Dave Dew. “We still have some work to do, but the win is showing we’re going in the right direction.”
The Highlanders Men’s squad are also in action this weekend, taking on the Portland Timbers in an away game, and looking for their first win of the season after a pair of tie games against opponents Seattle and Vancouver.
