In a effort to live up to Western Speedway’s motto “Number One In Family Fun” , this Saturday Night will see something totally new as the Speedway is offering a special Car Load Night at Western.  For only $30 you can pack as many people into your vehicle as possible, again making Western Speedway the most affordable family fun in Victoria.

The action will include the Richlock Rentals WILROC Non Wing Sprint Cars, Island Series Stock Cars and two classes making their first appearances of the year, the vintage cars of The Old Time Racers Association that feature cars from the 30’s and 40’s as well as the 5/8’s scale Dwarf Cars that are powered by motorcycle engines.

The Richlock Rentals WILROC Non Wing Sprint Cars will be back for their second point’s race of the year after an outstanding race on opening night two weeks ago. Campbell River’s Mark Stuart picked up his first career Sprint Car victory in a terrific battle with Shawinigan Lake’s Jeff Bird will be looking to make it two wins in a row.  Both up island drivers can expect tough challenges from several drivers including Chris Root from Sidney who set fast time on opening night, along with fellow Sidney driver and many time track champion in a variety of classes Rob Scott.  Victoria drivers, Ron French, the father and son team of the Verhagens, Paul and Matt, and Robbie Haslam should also be in action.  Two drivers expected to make their first starts of the year include Victoria’s Deter Lejeune and Courtney’s Lance Wade. Other up island drivers scheduled to compete are Wayde Heckford, Mark Gall, Shane Woolcock and Eli Ross.

The Island Series Stock Cars will also make their second start of the 2012 season with Duncan’s Cody Aumen leading the way after picking up his first career win on opening night, Aumen last year’s Rookie of the Year winner complimented the win by also setting fast time.  Dave Reside and Kyle Cottam who finished second and third at the opener will both be looking to break into victory square this weekend.  Former series Champion Ryan Wade and Brian Clutchey are both hoping for better luck, Wade finished sixth after a couple of on track altercations and Clutchey had engine problems after winning the trophy dash and did not start the main.  Daryl Crocker will debut his new car after arriving to late on opening night.  In the Rookie of the Year battle 15 year old Rhett Smith leads the way after his eighth place finish on opening night, other contenders Brandon Steen and Kevin Knight were both involved in a lap 2 crash as both drivers finished well back in the field.

The Old Time Racing Association will make their 2012 debut on Saturday Night, these beautiful cars from the 30’s and 40’s that resemble the first cars that raced at Western in the 50’s and 60’s always put on a great show as well as being very popular with the fans.  Drivers expected to fight for the win include James Campbell, George Jenson, Tom Cinnamon and three sets of father and son teams, Joe & Stephen Dardengo, Roger & Kyle Beck and James and Chris Miller. Up island drivers slated to compete are Nanaimo’s Larry Joyce, and Duncan drivers, Rich Bennett and Bob Martin.

The Island Dwarf Car Club will also return to Western for the first time this year and can expect to bring a good field of the 5/8’s scaled cars from the 30’s and 40’s that are powered by motorcycle engines. 2011 Champion Neil Sanger should be back to defend his championship but can expect a tough challenge from Jeremy Stevens, Jim Pridge, James Dorie and the Meeres, Jim and Mike.
