Royal Colwood Team Finishes Second

KELOWNA, B.C. – (ISN) – The Professional Golfers’ Association of British Columbia crowned their first Tournament Champions of the 2012 season today at the prestigious Harvest Golf Club. Head Professional of the Mission Golf & Country Club, Mark Anderson, partnered with their Club’s Champion, Stu Dunaway, to shoot a 7-under par 65 and edge out Royal Colwood’s team of Head Professional Jason Giesbrecht and Chris Westlake by one stroke.

Anderson earned the top professional prize of $1,200 while Dunaway won a brand new set of TaylorMade R11 irons.

Finishing two off the lead in third place (67) were Rob Anderson and Jason Monteleone of Kelowna Golf & Country Club, while the teams from Canoe Creek Golf Course Jesse Crowe and Cody Bell along with last year’s co-champions from Two Eagles Golf Course Dean Claggett and and Curtis tied for fourth with a score of 68.

The TaylorMade & adidas Golf PGA of BC Tournament of Champions is one of the more popular events on the PGA of BC event calendar, as it pairs the best amateur player at golf club’s across the province with that golf club’s Head Professional. The scoring format of Best Ball takes only the best score of the two players per hole giving the potential of scoring well provided both teammates do not struggle on the same hole. The prize structure offers professionals a chance to win a share of the $6,850 purse, and the Amateurs an opportunity to win their share of over $7000 of TaylorMade and adidas Golf product.

Technically the first winners of the year were crowned the night prior at the 2nd TaylorMade & adidas Golf Skills challenge held on The Harvest’s practice facility. Head Professional Dan Trevison and Amateur partner Jay Banfield from the Squamish Valley Golf Club displayed a terrific performance in the four challenges (chip, pitch, long putt, and long drive) to defeat the other teams during the social event generously hosted from the title sponsor and the golf facility. Both Banfield and Trevison contributed equally to the effort both holing their respective chip/pitch on their first shot to achieve top ranks in those events making it nearly impossible for other teams to catch them.

The Tournament of Champions was sponsored by TaylorMade & adidas Golf. Thirty-one teams competed and enjoyed amazing scenery and hospitality from the team at The Harvest Golf Club under the leadership of Head Professional Chad Scott and Executive Professional/General Manager Gilles Dufort.
