Victoria, BC (ISN) – The first women’s-only race to take place on Vancouver Island – the Victoria Goddess Run – was given a big thumbs up yesterday, by over 1,400 women.
The inaugural run, that took place on Sunday June 3, consisted of the Frontrunners Half-Marathon, Westhills 10k and What’s Up Media 5k. The three races started and finished at Goudy Park at Langford City Parks.

“We would like to congratulate all the goddesses that participated yesterday!,” said Co-Race Director Cathy Noel. “We hope everyone will wear their Sporty Jewels necklace with pride and remember all the laughter, money raised for charity and good times at the first annual event. We look forward to the participants’ feedback, and to making the Victoria Goddess Run even better next year.”

“We would like to thank our sponsors and the support of the City of Langford and Colwood who really made the Goddess Run happen,” said Co-Race Director, Andrea Carey. “They were very supportive and enthusiastic throughout the planning process. Our 235 volunteers were fantastic: they came up to the plate to make it a safe and memorable experience for everyone”

The race supported four charities: the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre, supporting women who have suffered a sexual assault; Women’s Transition House who work to help women who have suffered abuse to get the help they need to get back on their feet; ProMotion Plus who support women and girls participation in sport and physical activity; and SportAssist which supports kids participation in sport if they cannot afford it. A total of $12,000 was raised for the charities.
