Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Enerheat Braves saw a 7-run lead evaporate in the bottom of the 7th inning, but rallied for 5 runs in the top of the 8th to take a crazy 15-10 victory over the Alexander Enterprises Padres in Mavericks Senior Men’s Baseball League action Tuesday night at Lambrick Park.
The game did not start well for the Braves, as the Padres were able to get to Brave starter Max Valle for a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st thanks to an RBI single by Dave Auger and a sacrifice fly from Jeff Vickers.
After that however, Valle would settle down and allow just another run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 3rd, while striking out 2 in his 6 innings of work.

Valle would get some early run support from his Brave teammates who found a way to get to Padre starter Adam Cessford for 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Alex Sesse would get things started with an RBI double and then a throwing error by Padre second baseman Ryan Adkins on a Jon Taylor ground ball allowed another two runs to score, putting the Braves into the lead 3-2. An RBI double by Nick Urff and an RBI single by Jeremy Campbell pushed the lead to 5-3 before the inning was out.

The Braves would strike again in the top of the fifth, as Urff would once again double to lead off the inning and come around to score after back to back singles by Mike Degirolamo and Campbell. After two outs, Jon Taylor would follow up with an RBI double and Jarred Lehive would cash an RBI single and the Braves would be in control 8-3.

The Padres looked to mount a comeback in the bottom of the 5th when Rob Chittick walked to lead things off then advanced to second. Michael Turcotte then walked but on the pitch, Brave catcher Jared Lehive threw a bullet to second base to pick off Chittick. Graham Campbell then lined one to Justin Gibson at first, who easily stepped on the bag to double off Turcotte, thus quickly ending the Padre’s threat.
Jordan Will would relieve Cessford on the hill for the Padres and after pitching a scoreless 6th, was touched up by the Braves for 2 runs in the top of the 7th thanks to RBI singles by Lehive and Grant Dobson, giving the Braves a seemingly safe 10-3 lead heading into the final half-inning.

In the bottom of the 7th, the Braves pulled Valle and sent Nathan Petzold to the mound. Petzold struggled, walked the lead-off hitter and after getting a fly out, walked two more to load the bases whereupon he was pulled for Derrick Greenhalgh.
Greenhalgh fared no better though and was greeted by a 2 RBI single by Auger, and RBI double by Vickers that also saw another run come home on a scoring error to make the score 10-7. A Zac Dalrymple ground out scored another run to make the score 10-8 and after a walk to Brandon Magee, Ryan Adkins capped off the rally with a 2-run bomb over the centerfield fence to tie the game 10-10 and send it into extra innings.

In the extra frame, Auger took the hill for the Padres and gave up a lead-off single to Justin Gibson. After an out, Degirolamo and Jeremy Campbell would single, scoring Gibson. Alex Sesse would bring home Degirolamo with a single and a wild pitch would then score Campbell to make the score 13-10. A throwing error on a grounder by Lehive would allow Sesse to score and Dobson would cap things off with an RBI double making it 15-10.

As darkness drew near, Dobson came on to close the bottom of the extra inning for the Braves, and although hitting a batter, forced the Padres into three fly outs to end the game.
