ISKA Kickboxing

By Keith Varga

Victoria (ISN) – Professional fighter Gabriel Varga from Victoria will fight for the ISKA professional world kick boxing title in Watson Lake, Yukon on September 29th, 2012.

This is the one title that Gabriel had his heart set on having the opportunity to fight for when he first got in the ring years ago as an amateur. Gabriel now holds both the WKN world pro title as well as the K 1 rules WKF pro world title which he won in Vienna, Austria last September. Although these are both worthy titles, the ISKA pro world title is without a doubt, the most respected world title in kick boxing.

The Quest for the Title event will continue offering Island athletes the opportunity to develop their skills and this event will offer deserving Island fighters the added opportunity to travel to the Yukon to compete on Quest for the Title VIII. Right from the first event, it was always the goal of Quest for the Title promoter Keith Varga to not only offer fair and properly matched bouts for Island fighters, but to be able to offer them the opportunity to fight off Island and see the world.

Quest for the Title VIII ‘s main event will feature the ISKA pro world title bout, the amateur card will be done as a BC vs. Yukon theme. The event will also feature Yukon Amateur Boxing vs. Boxing BC athletes. The card will be rounded out with amateur kick boxing and the first amateur MMA bouts to ever be allowed to take place in the Yukon.

The amateur boxing portion will start the show off under the supervision of Yukon Boxing and Boxing BC officials. A required break and official change to ISKA officials will then take place. The ISKA officials will be coming to the Yukon from both Vancouver Island, Vancouver and the US.

The Town of Watson Lake worked with well known Nanaimo Martial Arts teacher, legend and promoter Don Arnott to form the Watson Lake Athletic Commission. Through Don’s efforts, Yukon fighters will find themselves being able to fight in their home territory for the first time.

16 amateur island athletes will have the opportunity of a lifetime to see the beautiful Yukon and challenge themselves against their opponent from Team Yukon.

Don Arnott will act as cornerman for the MMA and Kick Boxing fighters represtenting BC, while Nate Olsen of Olsen’s Martial Arts in Langford will be in charge of the Boxing BC fighters.

The Town of Watson Lake has really embraced this event as Mayor Richard Durocher and the Town Council are planning a weekend of events around Quest for the Title VIII. This will be the first event of its kind in the Yukon and could never have happened if not for the Town of Watson Lake-which embraces all opportunities to bring something wholesome and inspirational to the young people in town.

This event is highly anticipated and the support is like nothing Quest for the Title promotor, Keith Varga has ever experienced.
