Victoria (ISN) – The Victoria Highlanders reserve squads had a mixed weekend with the Men Reserves losing to a dominant UBC Thunderbirds team 3-0, while the Peninsula Co-Op Women’s Reserves got up over a strong West Vancouver side 2-0.
The Highlanders reserve men faced off against the UBC Thunderbirds at Hampton Park on Sunday afternoon. The Thunderbirds came out strong and dominated possession in the first half, but failed to capitalise on their opportunities, as the Highlanders defense kept them scoreless.
The few opportunities that the Highlanders, did have in the first half were easily defused by UBC and both teams went into the break with the score tied at 0-0.

When the teams came back out after the break, the Thunderbirds were determined to get on the board and broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half.
The Highlanders were down one goal and continued to fight but the height and speed of the Thunderbirds was just too much. As the Highlanders began to tire UBC slotted home two goals in the late stages of the game, ending with a score of 3-0.

A day earlier, the Peninsula Co-op reserve women took on a solid West Vancouver team lead by player/coach Rosalyn Hicks.
Strong winds at the Pacific Institute made the game difficult, but the Peninsula Co-op reserves kept the ball on the ground and managed to come out on top. The final score was 2-0 in favour of the Peninsula Co-op team with both goals being scored by Janelle Smith.
