Winterhawks Seth Jones Invited to U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp

Portland, OR (ISN) – USA Hockey announced today that Portland Winterhawks defenseman Seth Jones has been invited to the National Junior Evaluation Camp from August 4-11 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

The players invited to the camp will be auditioning for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2012-Jan. 5, 2013, in Ufa, Russia.

Jones signed with the Winterhawks on May 8, after the team acquired the right to negotiate with him from the Everett Silvertips on April 23.

“Seth has played on the world stage before with two gold medals at the Under-18 World Championship. Last season due to an injury prior to the World Junior tournament Seth was unable to participate with the U.S. team, so I know he’s looking forward to representing his country in Russia this year,” said Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston.

Jones, 6’3”, 201 pounds, is considered one of the best players in the U.S. in his age group, and is rated as a top prospect for the 2013 NHL Draft. He played last season for the U.S. National Team Development Program’s Under-18 team, and won a gold medal with the U.S. team in April at the U-18 World Championship in the Czech Republic. With the U.S. National Team Development Program, Jones posted six goals and 20 assists for 26 points in 48 games.

Jones becomes the third Winterhawk invited to try out for the World Junior Championship after Ty Rattie and Brendan Leipsic were selected to represent Canada in the Canada-Russia Challenge, which is replacing their evaluation camp this season.

Season tickets and 20 and 12-game ticket packages for the 2012-13 season are on sale now. Visit winterhawks.com or call 503-236-HAWK to reserve the best seat locations.
