Victoria (ISN) – This Saturday Night at Western Speedway it’s the Dukes of Hazzard Night, featuring Demo Cars, Demo Trucks, Bombers, Mini Figure 8’s and highlighted by the electrifying Josh “The Crusher” Beckel as he performs another daredevil car jump, attempting to smash into a pyramid of cars.
All this exciting action is brought to you by O’Dell Slinger Service at 4/10ths mile paved oval located in Langford.
In fashion with the Dukes of Hazzard theme, there will be a car chase with the General Lee look alike car and a sheriff’s car. What will happen to the General Lee no one knows. As a special promotion, anyone dressed up as a Dukes of Hazzard character will receive a free ticket to the July 27th Monster Truck Show at Western Speedway.
Advanced tickets are available at the Market on Millstream.
Early point leader and winner of the first two main events in 2012, Sean Staniforth finds himself tied at the top of the Bomber point standing. Aaron Cameron and Staniforth both have 221 points, closely followed by Tyler Woods with 203 and first time main event winner Morgan Giles moved into the top five with 203 points. Brendan Moores and Nanaimo’s Bobby Cyr are tied with 181 points after Moore had electrical problems and finished towards the back at the last event.
The Mini Figure 8 division continues to look like the Young Family Reality TV Show as the young clan still holds four of the top five positions. Brandon Young has taken over the top spot with 225 points followed by Cody with 215 and last race points leader Shawn with 217. The odd man out is Sooke’s Kail Beck who breaks up the Young stranglehold in fourth with 213 points. James Young is tied for fifth with 134 points.
Not much has changed points wise in the Demo Car class as Robin Trotter had a ten point lead over Kirk Peacy going into the last race and came out with a ten point lead after the night was over. Going into the fourth event of the year, Trotter has 243 points, 10 more than Peacy who has 233. Fan favorite and former champion Joe Liberatore sits in third position with 222 points followed by Cody Young with 211 and Jake Matthews at 129 points.
George Haywood continues to lead the point standings in the Demo Truck division over Rookie driver Cody Sadler from Sooke. Haywood leads Sadler 253 to 215. Another Sooke driver, Doug Richens, holds down the third position with 193 points followed by Kenny Baker with 134 and Cam Wilkinson with 128 points.
The next event at Western Speedway will be Saturday June 30th as Richlock Rentals presents The Canada Cup for the popular WILROC Non Winged Sprint Cars. Also in action will be the Island Series Stock Cars, IMS4 Mini Stocks, Island Dwarf Cars and the Hornets on the big track.
The front gates open at 4:30 pm, qualifying at 5:30 and racing at 6:30 pm.
