Victoria, BC (ISN) – Victora Cougar forward and 2011-2012 VIJHL Co-Scoring Champion Steven Axford has committed to playing hockey for Okanagan College in 2012-13.

Okanagan College has five campuses in British Columbia – Kelowna, Penticton, Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, and Vernon.

“Steven had a great career as a Cougar. I am so pleased that he has this opportunity,” Cougars head coach Mark Van Helvoirt said. “Last season Steven committed himself to furthering his development and ensuring that he would have opportunities beyond his junior career.”

Van Helvoirt also went on to add that Axford was a pleasure to coach and on behalf of the entire organization, wishes him the best of luck in his studies and in his continued hockey career.

The 5’9, 175 lb. forward played just over two seasons with Victoria.  In 105 regular season games, Axford amassed 61 goals and 94 assists for 155 points.

“The Cougars are a great organization. I would not have wanted to end my junior career anywhere else,” Axford said.

Axford is at Okanagan College studying to become a welder.

This announcement, according to Van Helvoirt, is the second of several to follow in the coming weeks. Earlier, Josh Wyatt committed to Weber State University.
