VICTORIA, BC (ISN)  -The Victoria Grizzlies made it official today, confirming the rumours that Craig Didmon has been named Assistant General Manager and Associate Coach of the Junior A hockey club.

Didmon brings over seventeen years of coaching experience in minor hockey, Major Midget, the BCHL and the WHL, as well as experience as a general manager and a scout at the junior level to the position. Craig spent the past year as an Assistant Coach with the Victoria Royals of the WHL, and remains the Director and Head Coach of the Westshore Hockey Academy in School District 62, one of the largest school hockey academy’s in Canada.

“I am looking forward to working with the Grizzlies again. Coaching alongside Bill Bestwick will be a great experience. After having Bill as one of my junior coaches and then coaching against him years later in the BCHL, I know him very well and am excited for us to begin building a Championship team and program,” said Didmon. “There is a feeling of excitement in the community with the new ownership and it is something I wanted to be part of, I look forward to bringing my years of experience on the ice and in the community to the organization.”

Prior to joining the Royals, Didmon spent two years working with Geoff Courtnall as the Associate Coach of the Victoria Grizzlies. While with the Grizzlies, he helped the team achieve a franchise record of wins in a season which led to a Regular Season League Championship.

Didmon is the first hiring by Bill Bestwick since being named Head Coach and General Manager of the Grizzlies in June.

“I am excited to work with Craig, he brings a great deal of knowledge of resources locally and beyond and will be instrumental in our player development. Having an experienced coach and administrator of Craig’s ability will support our transition collectively to have an immediate impact, ” said Bestwick.

Short lists of candidates are being created for the remaining hockey operations positions, including Assistant Coach, Goalie Coach and Strength & Conditioning. Further coaching announcements are expected within the next two weeks.

The Victoria Grizzlies Training Camp commences August 20th.
