(ISN) – ISN’s favourite anthem singer Michelle Szulc provides us with a recent update, including an announcement that she will be heading to Victoria later this year to sing the anthems for the Victoria Royals.  Enjoy!

I hope everyone has enjoyed reading my previous articles regarding anthem singing in Vancouver. I am further happy to say I have some exciting updates and news for you, too!

As I have shared in the past, I always keep super busy during the hockey season by singing for a number of the BCHL teams (Surrey Eagles, Coquitlam Express and Langley Rivermen), the North Delta Devils in the PIJHL, as well as the Vancouver Giants in the WHL. This year I was also invited to sing for the PIJHL league finals for the Delta Ice Hawks and Richmond Sockeyes, and then further asked to sing at the Cyclone Taylor Cup (Junior B provincials), which took place in Abbotsford.

As hockey was coming to an end, the AAA High School Boys Basketball Provincials were also taking place at the Langley Events Centre. I was asked to sing the national anthem for the semi-final, as well as final games and this was my third year returning to this event. I always look forward to this tournament, as it is the one that started my anthem-singing journey back in March 2010, and I look forward to it every year for its amazing energy and supportive fans.

This summer, I have been staying active on the anthem scene with the Western Lacrosse Association. I have been singing O Canada and during intermission for the Coquitlam Adanacs, New Westminster Salmonbellies, Burnaby Lakers and Langley Thunder. Even though I did not really understand lacrosse prior to the start of this season, it is definitely becoming one of my favourite sports to watch (after hockey, of course)! I am also singing for the Vancouver Canadians a few times this summer season, one date which just passed at the end of June. Even though the weather was typical for lovely Vancouver (rain, rain and more rain), the fans were still there to support and sing along.

Here is the best news though: my anthem break finally arrived at the first BC Lions pre-season game on June 13th. I was honored to have the privilege to sing the anthem for almost 25,000 people at BC Place Stadium. The sun was shining, and the roof was open – it truly was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I am definitely hoping to be back with them for the following season.

I am also excited to announce that I will be traveling to the island for the upcoming Victoria Royals 2012-13 season! I am super excited to be getting this opportunity, and to be formally interviewed by ISN, itself.

Aside from sports, I have been singing for other events, such as the Summer Night Market, and I even performed at the Miss BC Talent Show on Canada Day weekend, where I was also a contestant for the pageant. Even though I did not win the title, I had an amazing experience. In order to prepare for this pageant, I had to raise money and awareness for Cops for Cancer. I organized my own fundraiser concert at the Terminal Pub for friends, family and the general public. After this fundraiser, and many others, I am happy to announce that I raised over $3600.00 for childhood cancer. I really want to encourage youth to get involved in their community, to volunteer and to raise money for a cause. It is an amazing feeling to be making a difference and to be doing a good thing for the world. I have further been writing and singing in a pop-rock band for the last few months, and our album is due by the end of the year. So please keep your eyes and ears open for the band “All Guns On Deck” – we have some really exciting music coming your way!
