VANCOUVER (ISN) – The Peninsula Co-op Highlanders “capped” off a disappointing 2012 season on a high note as thye played to a well deserved tie against the Vancouver Whitecaps Women in their final game of the year in Vancouver on Sunday.
A goal headed in by Nina Anderson off a corner served by Liz Hansen put the ladies in front at the 38th minute. The half finished with the Highlanders leading 1 nil.
The 2nd half Vancouver scored at the 53:00 minute on a free kick that bounced awkwardly and fell to the feet of Brandi Vega, who had entered the game at half time.
The game was fought through to the final whistle with Vancouver having a number of good chances but goalkeeper Tanya Jones was up to the task making a number of great saves.
A very good performance for the Co-op Highlanders to complete the season. Coach Dave Dew said, “We were well organized defensively and it was a tremendous team effort. I am very proud of all the players who contributed this year and this was a positive way to finish a difficult season.”
