Local NHL Celebrities to Hit Opening Drives
Victoria (ISN) – The Victoria Disabled Golfers Association is hosting the 2nd Annual GolfAbility Tournament on Tuesday, August 7 at Mount Douglas Golf Course.
This tournament is in honor of Mr. Dick Melville our past Media Director. On hand to hit the opening drives are NHL stars Jamie Benn, Ryan O’Byrne and Tyson Barrie.
Twenty eight golfers with a variety of disabilities will enjoy a fun and competitive 9 hole round of golf, including skills competitions. There will be prizes, a silent auction and BBQ.
This unique tournament encourages golfers with a variety of physical and mental issues to have fun and enjoy a therapeutic round of competitive golf.
The tournament is governed by the rules of The Royal & Ancient Golf Club, ‘A Modification of the Rules of Golf for Golfers with Disabilities’, as interpreted by the Victoria Disabled Golfers Association. These rules provide a level playing field to accommodate a range of disabilities.
The VDGA Annual GolfAbility Tournament is endorsed by Golf’s popular personalities including, but not limited to:
• Wally Uihlein, CEO, Titleist Corp.,
• Lorne Rubenstein, author and golf columnist of the Globe & Mail.
• Lee Trevino, who took lessons from Moe Norman
The Victoria Disabled Golfers Association is dedicated to supporting and coaching disabled golfers who enjoy the game as part of a rehabilitation process. The Association has adopted the late Moe Norman, as our Icon. Moe was an all-time golf great who suffered with a particular form of autism.
Our Association operates with the help of a dedicated group volunteers and the kind donations of local Corporate and Individual sponsors.
The public is welcome to attend the tournament, take part in the festivities and cheer on the golfers!!
