The 2nd Annual Victoria International 7’s Rugby Tournament kicked off on Friday at Wallace Road Field with the U-14 and U-18 divisions and concludes Saturday with the U-14, U-18, Women’s and Men’s division playing at both Wallace Road Field and Centennial Stadium at UVic.

The U-14 division features players involved in the BC Elite Youth Sevens Program which was put together to help develop the younger athletes into future Olympic and World Cup players. The division is made up of 8 teams – two from the South Island, three from Valley West, Burnaby, North Shore and Delta.

The teams concluded their Pool play on Friday with the top 4 teams advancing to the Cup semi-finals and the bottom 4 teams advancing to the Bowl semi-finals on Saturday morning at Wallace Field. The Bowl semi-finals losing teams will play for the Shield while the winning teams will battle it out for the Bowl, the Cup semi-final losing teams will challenge for the Plate with the winning teams will meeing in the Cup final.

The U-18 division features four Canadian teams, BC Gold, BC Blue, BC White and last year’s winner Ontario, joining them are teams from Utah and Washington State.

With Sevens rugby debuting at the 2016 Olympics the players will be looking to make a name for themselves. Several of the top players on the Canadian teams have excelled at the Provincial level and represented Canada at the Youth Commonwealth games last summer.

The U-18 will finish their Pool play Saturday at Centennial Stadium starting at 12:45pm with the Bowl final going at 3:10pm, Plate final at 5:20pm and Cup final at 5:40pm.

The Women’s and Men’s division get underway tomorrow with the Women’s pool play getting underway at 11:05am at Wallace Road with final at 3:35pm at Centennial Stadium. The Men kick off at 8:30am at Centennial Stadium with their finals going at 6:45pm.
