Coquitlam (ISN) – The Victoria Shamrocks travelled to Coquitlam on Saturday night for a return engagement against the Adanacs, dropping a close 10-9 decision for their fourth loss in a row.
It was a slow start for both clubs as the Shamrocks returned to Coquitlam just seven days after losing out 9-8 in the same building.
The Adanacs got on the board first in a low scoring first half of the opening frame as Dane Dobbie managed one past Victoria keeper Matt Flindell. The Adanacs would increase the lead with a goal from Mark Negrin but it would not last long as a 5 minute major penalty by Coquitlam’s Jason Jones would spark the Shamrocks power play.
Two goals from Corey Small would get the ‘Rocks back in the game and Jeff Shattler added a third straight power play marker to give Victoria a 3-2 lead with just minutes remaining in the first. Kevin Olson though would break the streak, scoring just before the end of the frame to notch things at 3 heading into the first interval.
The second period would see plenty of end-to-end action and tough physical play as the Adanacs would strike first, scoring three consecutive goals, two by Kevin Olson and one more by Dane Dobbie.
Corey Small would reply for the Shamrocks however when he bagged his hat trick goal. Derek Lowe would add another for the Rocks, putting away a crafty backhander to get Victoria within one as they went into the second break down 6-5.
The third period was an up and down affair with the lead changing hands twice as Corey Small and Matt Yager scored goals for the Shamrocks, Mitch Maclaren would also add one for the Rocks, streaking down to floor and putting away a nifty goal.
Travis Cornwall, Kevin Olson and Dane Dobbie were the third period scorers for the Adanacs as Coquitlam held out for the 10-9 victory, handing Victoria their fourth straight loss.
