VICTORIA, B.C. (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes track program had a number of podium finishes at the BC Club Championship meet this weekend, Jul. 14-15, hosted in Coquitlam, BC. The Vikes raced in the men’s and women’s 1500-m on Saturday and the 800-m on the Sunday.

For the Vikes women, Kendra Pomfret was the top competitor finishing in second place overall for the 800-m (2:09.77) and third place in the 1500-m (4:33.71). In the 1500-m, veteran Brittany Therrien finished fourth (4:35.14), while Maureen McCulligh placed seventh in a time of 4:54.2. For the 800-m race, Therrien was fifth (2:13.59) and Jenica Moore finished fourth (2:12.86).

The Vikes men were lead by Doug Oxland, who reached a personal best in the men’s 1500-m in a time of 3:50.03. Oxland would pick up second place with senior Cliff Childs finishing fourth (3:50.38) and Kyle Irvine finishing fifth (3:50.79). In the men’s 800-m, John Pratt earned second place in 1:50.97, whileThomas Riva took third (1:51.32) and Oxland, again with a personal best, finished in 1:54.71.

The BC Club Championship marks the end of the 2011-12 season for the Vikes track program.
