North Delta, BC (ISN) – Fresh off their championship win at the Canadian Open, the Victoria Devils 96 U16 A softball team captured the Silver medal at the 2012 Provincials last weekend and as a result will be heading to the Nationals in Brantford, Ontario August 8th-12th.

On July 13, 2012 North Delta, BC kindly hosted the 2012 Softball BC Provincial Championship Tournament.

Starting off the weekend with a 3-2 win against the Richmond Islanders, the Devils 96 got their Provincials off to a great start with a 3-2 victory against the White Rock Renegades 97.

Saturday morning the Devils overcame a 5-1 deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning to defeat the Burnaby Oakeys 96 6-5. The Devils suffered their first loss at the hands of the Outlaws 96 with a 9-2 finish. Their final game of the day, the first round of the playoffs vs the Delta Heat 96 was a 8-4 loss.

The playoff loss to the 96 Heat meant that on Sunday the Devils would have to battle hard to stay alive Sunday in the double knockout playoff portion of the tournament.  First game up, against the Fraser Valley Fusion 97, was a quick 15-0 win calling it on the mercy-rule in the 4th inning.

Their second game with the Outlaws 97 concluded with a 3-0 win. Hot on the field, their third game against the White Rock Renegades ended as a 7-5 win. The fourth game against the Oakeys 96 was a close 4-3 win for the Devils keeping their bases well guarded.

The fifth and final game for the Devils was a real nail biter. Combating for the gold medal, the Devils held their own with a 5-5 score against the Delta Heat 97 in the 5th and 6th inning.  In the bottom of the 7th, the Delta Heat brought in a run ending the game at 6-5 earning the gold and knocking the Devils into the Silver medal position.

The Devils 96 played long and hard without any time for refueling before going back to back with 5 straight games in a row (a total of 11.5 hours). Their defense played well and their spirited fans are what kept them going in the game.

With the Silver medal, the Devils have now earned their spot to compete in the 2012 Canadian National Championship Tournament in Brantford, Ontario which occurs August 8th – 12th.

Congratulations to the Victoria Devils 96 Girls Fastball Team!
