Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Svee Unit broke open a close seesaw battle by scoring 14 runs in the final 4 innings to cruise to a 17-8 win over the Wild and sweep the Victoria Women’s Fastball League championship series two games to none at Hyacinth Park Wednesday evening.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first and a 3-0 lead after the top of the second, Svee Unit would give up 3 runs in the bottom of the second and 3 in the bottom of the third to find themselves trailing the Wild 6-3.

The Wild rallies in those innings were sparked in part by 2 hits each from Krystal Weber, Lindsay Hall and Krystle Ward.

However the powerful Svee Unit bats could not be silenced forever and they pulled back in front 7-6 with 4 runs in the top of the 4th, thanks in part to an RBI triple from Kala Halasz, who then came home on an overthrow, and a 2 RBI single from Alena Hickman.

Sensing a momentum swing, the Svee Unit then replaced starting pitcher Chantelle Desmarias with their ace Brianna Jones, and she came in with focus, retiring the side in the bottom of the fourth, giving up just a single run in the bottom of the fifth and retiring the side again in the bottom of the sixth.

Meanwhile the Svee Unit offence continued to build their lead scoring another 4 runs in the top of the fifth, courtesy of hits from Sarah Hoey, Kymber Gale and Kelsey Elder. Those hits marked the end of the day for Wild starter Kristen Palou and she was replaced by Christine Gamble. Gamble would get out of the inning, but not before a key error in centerfield allowed another run to score giving the Svees an 11-6 lead.

The Svees would add another run in the top of the sixth to lead 12-7 after six innings of play and would then put the game away with another 5 runs in the top of the seventh. The 5 run outburst was sparked by a leadoff triple from Kayla Arnold, as well as doubles from Amy Miller, Hoey and Gamble and singles from Hickman and Halasz (her fourth hit of the game).
