Victoria (ISN) – The Victoria Fastball Club in partnership with the “Victoria Devils 1994” team is proud to be hosting the 2012 Softball BC U-18A Girls Provincial Championships. Three days of great fastball action begins Friday, July 27 at two Greater Victoria venues: Centennial Park in View Royal and Hyacinth Park in Saanich.

Fifteen teams from around BC, including four from Vancouver Island (two from Victoria, and one each from Duncan and Nanaimo), will compete for the title of Provincial Champion. The top six teams will earn a berth in the National Championship.

Since 2006, the Devils have won Silver four times at Provincial Championships. The team has qualified for Softball Canada’s National Championships three times, winning
Bronze in 2008, and finishing fourth in 2010.

This is the final year the 94’ Devils will compete in minor softball. When the season is over, four players will begin their collegiate softball careers, with two girls heading to
“NCAA Division 1” teams: Sarah Chow (Utah State) and Mckenzie Smith (Stanford). In total, 26 girls competing in this tournament will play collegiate softball next year.

Note:  ISN Photographer Christian J. Stewart will be the tournament photographer for this event and will no doubt get some great images of this top level softball action.
