Comox (ISN) – Surfwood Equipment sponsored a great night of racing last Saturday at Saratoga Speedway, featured by a great 35 lap main event in the Hornet Car Division. The Crash to Pass and Roadrunners were also racing.
In the Roadrunner division, #66 Nick Leavitt was dominating the field the whole night, setting fast time in qualifying, winning the dash and the heat race. #59 Ted Dimitrov struggled all night getting his car running, but he finally had his car running great for the 10 lap main event, leading every lap and holding off Leavitt to win his third main event win of the year. #73 Sheldon Hopp had a very productive night in the Crash to Pass class, winning the dash and battling #01 Jeff May in the 20 lap main event, eventually taking the win in a very exciting feature race.
The Hornet cars were up to 20 cars on Saturday. #05 David Cates won the C Dash, #42 Jordan Phillips won the B, and #01 Kevin Lawrenuk won the A. Lawrenuk would take the win in the A heat, with the B heat going to #81 Jeremy Stormo. Lawrenuk and #02 Daryl Cahill battled for first and second for all 35 lap of the feature race. Cahill was on Lawrenuk’s bumper for the whole race, but couldn’t find away around him, with the win eventually going to Lawrenuk.
In the B division, #64 Steve Roscoe took home first, with second going to #17 Brad Dimitrov, and third to #55 Trevor Dicus, who was racing for the first time this season. The Mid-Season Championship was crowned tonight, with the A Mid-Season Championship going to Lawrenuk, and the B Mid-Season Championship going to #64 MacLaren Inglis.
Extra laps…This weekend marks the second appearance of the Sprint cars, and the first appearance of the Island Mini Stocks. Going into next weekend, #25 Chris Root and #55 Jeff Bird are neck and neck in the Sprint car points race, with the advantage going to Bird. Also going into next weekend, #77 Jeremy Waksel and #20 Glen Percival are in a heated battle for first, separated by 6 points. #72 Stewart Lee has a 184 point lead over #11 Justin Beaulieu/Mike Dionne in the Bomber car division, and #00 Bart Smith has a slim 18 point lead in the I.M.C.A Modified division.
The Bomber car, I.M.C.A Modifieds and the Motorcycles are also on the Racing card next weekend, so make sure to mark your calendars for this great racing event, and many more to come this season.
