Victoria BC (ISN) – The Victoria Eagles Premier baseball team played the Maverick’s Dodgers in an exhibition game on Wednesday with the Dodgers winning in dramatic fashion on a game-winning, walk-off home run off the bat of the Dodger’s Bobby Scott in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Scott typically plays catcher for the Dodgers, but today only batted as the designated hitter. “His shoulder hurts from some recent pitching”, said rookie Cory McLachlan who was Scott’s replacement behind the plate for the game.
The Eagles used the exhibition game as a chance to rotate through a number of pitchers. Six different players threw from the mound, with most throwing only one inning.

The Eagles hope to be playing in Nanaimo this coming Saturday for the start of their playoffs. When asked how he felt about their chances in the playoffs, Eagle’s centre fielder Alex Hendra-Brown said, “I think we’re pretty good. Nanaimo is hosting provincials so we think they might take it easy.”

Whether the Eagles will play in Naniamo this weekend has yet to be determined for sure, as the Eagles have to hope that the North Shore Twins lose one of their remaining two games. If that does not happen, the Eagles will be heading across the pond to face Langley in the opening round.
Another notable hit for the Dodgers was made by Perry Wilkinson who stroked a double far into left field in the second inning.

The Eagles Chase Cuckovich did his best to distract the Dodgers on the base paths with many attempts at stolen bases. Cuckovich is a visiting player who attends Riverside Community College in California most of the year.
Wednesday’s game was well matched. The Eagles began the first inning with four runs, but the Dodgers soon caught up and the score was kept even for most of the game.

Both teams benefited from a relaxed atmosphere in the exhibition match up. The Eagles had a change to exercise many pitchers and the Dodgers were left with the excitement of a game winning home run as they prepare to head into the Maverick’s League playoffs.
