VICTORIA, B.C. – Some of women’s soccer’s top recruits from British Columbia and Alberta have committed to the University of Victoria Vikes women’s soccer program for the 2012-13 season.

Versatile striker and midfielder Sarah Douglas, midfielder Allie Wiebe, striker Sarah Lefebvre, defenderNikki Turner, defender Sam Lee and defender Erika Groten will all expect to suit up for the Vikes this year.

Since the age of 13, Douglas has played competitive soccer in the women’s Premier division with Victoria clubs Gordon Head and Gorge. In 2011, Douglas spent the summer as a regular starter with the Prospect Super 20 Highlanders team following her grade eleven season with 2011 Provincial A Cup winners Glenlyon Norfolk School. In her graduating year, Douglas and the GNS Gryphons finished in second at provincials.

Island-based defenders Turner and Lee, and striker Lefebvre were all teammates on the Victoria Capitols Metro team that captured the league title in 2010-11. Turner and Lee, both Claremont high school graduates, helped their school capture gold at the Provincial AAA Cup in 2010 and silver in 2011.

Delta Secondary graduate Wiebe brings experience after competing with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Prospects, while defender and Alberta native Groten boasts two Tier 1 provincial indoor titles with the South West United Soccer Club. Groten was also the captain of the Saint Francis High School Soccer team.

The long list of recruits will aim to get the Vikes on the podium at the 2012 CIS women’s soccer nationals, hosted at Centennial Stadium on Nov. 8-11.
