Wildcats Win Wild One

The Victoria Wildcats and the Comox Valley Cardinals met in the final of the BC Baseball Vancouver Island Zone Pee Wee ‘A’ Championship on Sunday and what a final it was. The lead switched 4 times before the Wildcats came out on top of an 11-9 decision.

The Wildcats downed the Victoria Mustangs 11-5 and the Cardinals defeated the Victoria Tigers 16-6 in semi-final action to make their berths in the final. The teams headed into the game having met once before during pool play with the Wildcats coming away 6-2 victors.

Comox Valley would get the scoring started in the top of the 1st inning when Austin Brown launched a 2 run homerun to center field. The score remained 2-0 Cardinals until the bottom of the 3rd inning when Robert Webster blasted 3 run homer to put the Wildcats up by 1.

Comox Valley would battle back in the 5th inning and tie the game 3-3 before a 2 out single by Ethan Brunton would score a pair and give the Cardinals a 5-3 lead. They would add 4 more runs in the 6th to take a 9-5 lead.

Cue the Wildcat comeback, with the score tied 9-9, Jordan MacDougall hit a single that put the Wildcats up by 2 at the end of 6 innings.

The Cardinals were unable to rally in the top of the 7th and the Wildcats took the Championship 11-9.

In Consolation play the Victoria Tigers downed the Victoria Mustangs 13-3 to earn 3rd place.

The Wildcats, Cardinals and Tigers all advance to the BC Baseball Provincials in Kelowna, August 2-6.
